Infections
Gynecological infections are infections that affect the female reproductive system including the vagina, cervix, uterus and ovaries. Common infections include bacterial vaginosis which results from an imbalance of vaginal bacteria; yeast infections caused by an overgrowth of Candida fungus and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea and human papillomavirus (HPV). Symptoms may include abnormal discharge, itching, pain during intercourse and pelvic pain. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility. Maintaining good hygiene, practicing safe sex and regular gynecological check-ups can help prevent and manage these infections.
